Nice! All of my Reddit accounts got banned this week too! Including one that hadn’t even made a post in over 6 months!
mines got banned early last month because of a suspension, 5+ accts gone.
All these Reddit bans I’m seeing are insane. At this rate, soon most of that site is actually going to be bots lol
and they keep it vague so you never know the actual reason why its ban, they are definitely cleaning house to make it look facebook2.0, facebook now uses AI to control dead accts to engage in activities. reddit is heading this way, of course with right wing content too. its also becoming increasingl hard to make your own subreddit, or take it over. they want a small managable group where they can distribute propaganda.
If I ever see my old fb posting I’m calling a lawyer. I got locked out before I could delete and they have NO support staff.

This isn’t even exactly a haven for wrongthink either. /r/fatpeoplehate couldn’t exist on Lemmy, so most people coming over aren’t even really concerned with political opinions being silenced, so much as they care about their particular political opinion being silenced.
It absolutely could exist. It’s just likely that a lot of servers would defederate them. That’s kind of the beauty of federation.

It really depends. World is friends with pretty much everyone with a few notable exceptions. There are definitely instances that care about that, but you can’t force an isolationist instance to communicate with you.
Freedom goes both ways. It also means freedom to form a bubble. I would say it’s more accurate to describe the fediverse as a place where you have that option.
Turns out, those are sort of the same thing. You are given the power to shape your feed how you want it instead of how some corporation wants it.
Yes, but federation controls that on a wider level by adjusting what you’re allowed to see and interact with. Therefore, someone above you gets to control that still. That’s the point I’m making.
If everything federated by default, and users could sign up for filter lists or something to make it easy - sure. But that’s not how it works.
Lemmy even did the same thing Reddit is doing now, where if you mentioned a certain topic they were banning people; but they walked it back. I believe it was even the same topic of Luigi and “advocating violence”.
Therefore, someone above you gets to control that still.
There is nothing stopping you from running your own Lemmy instance and choosing to federate with whomever you choose.

this is so reminiscent if the digg Exodus around the aacs key. bans pushed us to reddit, and at a higher rate than those being banned. Lemmy mau is up over 10%. idk if the bleeding can be stopped.
uninvolved users will stay with it. digg had 2 or 3 major redesigns before I stopped hearing about it completely. it became little more than yahoo! news.

Yup, they banned me for 7 days because saying Luigi didn’t deserve to go to jail for what he did is apparently ‘encouraging violence’. I appealed and it was lifted, but not before I got another message identical to yours. In my 14 years of reddit I have never had more than a single account, so I appealed that too. I’m not banned anymore but I got a message saying the second appeal was denied and the ban would stay in place. I think reddit is just falling over itself in its eagerness to frog-march to

then they reban people after thier increased number show healthy activity to thier investors, i just delete my accounts if they recieved to many sub bans, or a sitewide ban.

I use this it doesn’t work. In the sense that, to you your post may seem gone. But Reddit can and will restore them.
I use this exact tool when I left Reddit. They restored my posts.
I got banned from half the subs on reddit for trying to explain the scunthorpe problem on programming related sub, because all that is what happens when everyone uses the same automod that has the exact problem I was trying to explain and they also ban you from subs you’ve never even been to because they share a naughtylist of ppl who use the c word.

I’ve been reporting people that hint at violence after I got banned for something that was 1000% not even close to a hint at political violence… like not even being sarcastic. Anyway, the more banned the more people leave. Silver linings. Reddit era deserves to be over.
i got banned for reporting people for the same thing+ obvious misinformation that was slipping through the cracks. the Mods are part of the problem, because many of them are ok if the filters gets a random person wether the filter flags the acct as possible (ban evaders or not). Reddit additionally doesnt even give the mods why a user is getting flagged or banned, its completely arbitrary.
Yeah I mean I got permad back in the day for saying that omicron was transmitting even among vaccinated people (like 2 weeks before that was general knowledge on the news and stuff and “accepted” information) so I get that they just censor along with whatever the current government wants but damn. I’ll take political shitpost cesspit all day over everyone banned for everything censored platform
