Someone else pointed out they mention stepfathrr elsewhere (I kept seeing just “parents”), so it may not be the case - or at least not as obviously the case as it would be if the father was the biodad as well.
It may be a power imbalance. There’s a link between domestic abuse and extremism so I wouldn’t be surprised if he was raised in an abusive home
