I don’t think it “attracts” bad people. I think they actively seek out pedophiles so that they have blackmail material. Then they put them in power to control them.
The whole conservative ideology harkens back to a time when women and children were viewed akin to property. That’s a very appealing setup to people who want free reign to abuse those children.
That does not jive well when your worldview includes everyone bring treated as a person. With rights. Including children.
