Lemmy.world defederated from hexbear because of political disagreements. They do stuff like that enough that I moved from .world to .ml a month or two ago.

What has your day to day experience been like since moving to .ml, compared to .world?

Not much difference except more communities visible, i.e. less censorship. I guess a little more random downtime. I still go on .world when that happens.

.ml is another of the tankie triad instances that are typically blocked for context. On lemme.ee for their loose defederation policies and I’ll be moving to .zip for the same, but I still block hexbear at the least because of how horrible those people are, rather bang my head against a wall than entertain that cess pool

covid@hexbear is the only hexbear sub that I read regularly and it’s pretty good. I don’t really notice different political stuff on .ml. I signed up because it says FOSS and privacy enthusiasts. Heard about the ML angle later, but it’s not that visible afaict. People need to stop wigging out. Read what you want to. Don’t like, don’t read. There’s no reason to let other people decide for you.

I didn’t block hexbear until a few months after joining and personally experiencing all the toxic vitriol that comes from there. They REALLY stick out. .ml hasn’t been bad enough to where I can see a post and immediately go “oh yep that’s from .ml” like hexbear

Yeah, same. I didn’t know any better so when I moved from reddit a couple months ago I made an account on lemmy.world because it seemed to be the largest and most active instance, and then had a bunch of people in leftist subs tell me that was a bad plan so I made a .ml account too.

Hexbear has a reputation for being aggressively toxic, so a lot of the big instances have blocked them.

My one published book is a sci fi novel. My wife writes fantasy, and non of it is web based. Except for the new thing I am trying out.

There’s an instance called literature.cafe that has a lot of writing related communities. I see writing prompts somewhat often while browsing all. It’s not the largest of instances, but it might be a good place to start
