I honestly don’t see how the average working class adult find that time. I feel like gaming is a luxury for rich/middle-class teens.

  • I don’t have kids, so I have a few hours a week for the video games. Oblivion remaster is consuming all of that time currently. I fucking love the original and this new one is just so beautiful

Since there are barely any new movies I feel truly interested in (and shows, even less so), I guess I do have the time. I just don’t have the interest anymore and my tastes, through experience, have developed. I’m a big turn based RPG guy, although I’m also partial to ARPGs a la Elden Ringu, and there are barely any ‘decent’ games for me to dive into. I’m the kind of guy that plays one game every 4+ months, but if it’s not even semi interesting I will delete the game shortly after I pirate it (I’m not paying for disappointment, I only pay after playing and enjoying it enough to feel it’s earned). For instance, two years ago I played Outward and modded DOS2, last year I mostly played ER and I replayed Wasteland 3, this year I’ve played Wartales (and about 20 hours of Clair Obscure, which is still demo time for me, lol) and Tainted Grail (it’s okay, better than CO, IMO, so I paid for it), and I’m considering a replay of Xcom 2 (Long War of the Chosen, ofc).

      1. TG is better than CO? Hmmm I might give it a look then.
      2. Don’t go back to XCOM, friendo. That’s a toxic bitch with RNG that’ll scar your heart and salt the earth around you. Do not. Go back. To XCOM. 😱
  • I play videogames with my 9yo daughter every night for 30-45 mins before bed. It started a few years ago with me playing and her watching, but she’s starting to drive these now. I would much rather she plays games rather than watch game streams like most of her friends.

I think such activity is not recommended before bed. You seem like you care so maybe move that to a better time

    • My boomer trait: I cannot stand that kids would rather watch someone else play a game than just play it (unless its some $80 game theu cant afford). HOWEVER I realize, it is actually a great need for them to socialize with people they like and imagine they have friends. So it’s really sad, but I get it.

      • Yeah that’s how I feel. It’s one thing if it’s just filling a void, but these streamers eventually end up exploiting these kids, so I’ll be relieved if she never gets the appeal of watching streamers.

I don’t play a dedicated video game setup, but I do play a merge game on my phone that’s endless that I can whip out and do anywhere.

My wife and I have no kids, and plan to keep it that way, so we have plenty of time to play video games together several times a week.

Yes, but not as much as I used to, for several reasons:

    • The titles I enjoy are few and far between these days. Most titles boild down to “just another call of shooty” or something else that offers nothing new.
    • Adult responsibilities takin up a lot of time.
    • Other projects taking up the me.

The latest Rimworld expansion looks interesting, though. I’ll probably grab it once my current pet project is winding down.

  • As an adult with a family: Yes, but nothing like when I was younger. The biggest shift for me primarily was to games that are not competitive or multiplayer.

I can’t do the 25-60 minute intense gaming sessions with or against other players. I have to be able to stop everything I am doing at a moment’s notice. I feel bad having to drop on people.

Also I can’t do the FPS games now because I’m old and my eyes just can’t anymore.

Yes, pretty much every evening after 8 or 9 I have time to play games. I need my unwind time. I can’t always find something I feel like playing though.

Yes. I don’t have kids though. Also I work in games so I can persuade myself that I’m doing market research or whatever

I have two kids and still game probably 3-4 nights/week, it’s just much shorter sessions. I’m not pulling full gaming days on the weekends anymore, I’m playing for an hour or so before bed.

I find that most people who say there isn’t enough time for gaming simply choose things like watching TV instead 🤷‍♂️ which is fine, to be clear, but it’s a choice

I do have time. Working an 8-5 with no kids makes it easy, so long as you plan your meals out.

That being said, I have gravitated towards reading recently and have been forgoing the games as a result.

Yeah. Often when I talk to people who say they “don’t have time” I wonder where their time is going. Often to watching TV. Sometimes podcasts. Social media is a big time suck.

But like if you have time to watch all of the office again this year, you had time to play video games.

A friend of mine realized they were just losing hours a day to Instagram. Delete that, and you have time for better hobbies. Play a game. Read a book.

Having children seems like a bigger factor. The only couple I know that has kids still has time. One spends it on DND, and other on TV and simple phone games.

Yep I have a kid and run my own business which is very demanding. I’m always strapped for time and I still find a little bit for gaming here and there. I do have to select for low investment games like rocket league, indie games, etc. I wish I could play WoW all day but that’s a bridge too far.

I work from home so I can play a round or two of my fave shooters to break the monotony in the middle of my work day. Then around two hours after work.
