• Your brain just needs more practice at being bored. Then you’ll be able to enjoy long form content again.

    Control your dopamine intake.

It’s not because your body produces it that it’s necessarily good for you.

Those are all things I say to myself every once in a while just so you don’t think I’m coming at you with any sense of higher ground.

i like the feeling of my brain being in pain trying to conceptualize something. It’s like the most primal form of confusion.

I still need to understand everything. My thirst has only grown over the years. I cultivate my curiosity by reading things that I’m not directly interested in, sometimes grinding through articles that I find boring.

Ars Technica does a great job of covering a multitude of topics while making them interesting even if I know nothing about them. Check them out: https://arstechnica.com/

Instead of scrolling on social media, try going directly to a website’s homepage and reading all the articles. You’ll learn a lot and maybe find something you didn’t know you were interested in!

i mostly try to keep busy with things, rather than stuff. Reading is a great way to learn, but you have to be very directed for it to be productive. Which to be fair, isn’t incredibly hard.

Find things to do that keep your brain stimulated, and exploit the ever living shit out of them, that’s why smart people exist. That’s what they do really well. Knowledge is 50% of intelligence.

Yep, Ars is great. The hate Elon gets in the comments is always a pleasure.

Have you seen the Asianometry YouTube channel? It’s technical topic video essays that are informative and really well made.

I hadn’t heard of that and at just a glance their stuff looks spectacular! I do watch a mixture of channels on YouTube. I’ll list some of my favorites.

        • Kurzgesagt - various topics (GOAT for sure)
        • NileRed - chemistry
        • Stuff Made Here - engineering
        • Corridor Crew - movie/TV stuff like VFX, CGI, stunts, etc.

Yeah my friends and I have been reading a book of humanities theory lately. I’m an engineer. I’ve also been fucking around with a home server and starting an organization.

Yeah I like memes and such, but I try to learn a bit every day

Me too…I’ve been stuck on quantum physics for the past 15 years. Soon, I’ll be able to start wrapping my head around chemistry and maybe some biology before I die.

This…feels too accurate. I don’t like this. No one told you to wake up today and call me out. :(

sociology, while fun, is i think, the closest thing there is to hell on earth.

Nihilism is the brain child of philosophy. Same for anti-natalism. Sometimes it’s fun though, others it’s just a fucking mess.

Every time I understand another horrible aspect of human society, I desperately wish for the “fuck go back” button to be real.

Ignorance is a lot more comfortable in the face of seeing all the problems for what they are, and being so near powerless to do anything about them, you may as well be.
