“Come make friends on Reddit”

Silly Reddit, bots aren’t going to sign up because of an ad

I don’t use it for discussion, but for some information/support it is helpful to have a larger community to discuss with. I stay the fuck away from anything that has a hint of controversy though.
It is still a very good place to have information on a variety of topics.
there is almost no topic specific activity here, aside from Linux and unix
they haven’t yet banned all the anti genocide people.
Given the general demographics of Reddit, it would just be a bunch of bots left if they did this.
I hate that still some troubleshooting that I need to do is much easier when I look for answers through Reddit…
TV show discussions threads, game-specific forums.
I mean… some decided they don’t like reddit and migrated…
…to Discord
So yea, pick your poison, normies ain’t coming here, the Fediverse is a nerd platform.
Because I like pit bulls and deisel VW’s. Nobody here likes them enough to post every day …or even once a month …or even once every 6 months…maybe once a year
But I’m confident they will one day ! Viva la Pit Bulls !!! Viva La Lemmy!!!
Or woodworking. Or drones. Or… basically any sport, including basket and soccer/football. Or Maine coons. Or tiny houses. Or off-grid cabins. Or…
Ha yeah all the niche stuff isn’t here yet but with reddit really fucking shit up on the reg its going to get better.
Lemmy is just cooler. When those communities get going they will be better over here.
Unfortunately, most are moving to Discord :(
Well then they are idiots and I wish them the best
Well discord doesn’t ban you for jokes about killing pedos and most probably haven’t heard of lemmy to know of any other option
“Come make friends on Reddit”
Lmao. Tell me Reddit inc doesn’t understand their product at all without telling me.
No one uses Reddit to make friends. (Yes, I know some jagweed will come with a story about their friends brothers girlfriends nephew that met their best friend on Reddit)
I have never noted anyone’s username regularly on Reddit. Unless it’s because they consistently had terrible comments, then they would stand out as either a troll or an idiot; honestly, it could go either way with many of them.
Lemmy is small enough that I see some of your names daily.
Y’all better stay off my lawn.
I used to have an iOS client for Reddit that would hide usernames. That was actually fantastic.
I don’t care who you are, just what you say.
where is satan’s maggoty cumfart when we need him?

Reddit posting ads for more users is actually hilarious. They were soooo unconcerned with how many users they were going to lose when they made the 3rd party API changes. Like to the point where u/spez basically had a “let them eat cake” moment and just straight up said “were successful enough we dont care if we lose people”.
Netflix made up their minds the same way before tanking their subscriptions.
I mean from a business standpoint it makes sense. You make more money selling 5 hamburgers at $21 a piece than you do selling 10 at $10 a piece, as long as costs are similar. Having fewer users you’re making more money from can make sense.
See I dislike this mentality though. Shouldnt the point of business be to make a product thats widely popular and accessible to essentially everyone? Unless of course your burgers are made with higher quality meat than your competitors(as an example), so you pay a little more in costs for the product itself. I really think this culture of businesses being viewed as successful only if they post “record” profits every quarter (while simultaneously rolling back policies that made the business good/popular because it cost more money) is going to absolutely break the consumers back at some point.
I mean it’s simple math. Would you rather make more money or less money if you’re the business owner? It’s not good, but it’s easily explainable.
Not even from business standpoint. Or maybe I’m misinterpreting the bottom line, but a business should be conscious about it’s business model.
Why do people go to reddit? Funny memes and great comments. It started to become boring when the people started to act like bots (echochamber), now it’s mostly bots echoing arguments and memes of past. With your restaurant analogy, it is more like they started selling the support beams instead of product.
I’m just so thankful for Lemmy not having built in posts that are ads. I hate it so much on Reddit.
Come meet the most vindictive, aggravated, compulsively argumentative people you’ve ever met. On Reddit!
Would that be true for Parisians?
Haha I don’t know enough about Parisian culture to be comfortable taking such potshots!
Neither do I, but I am vindictive and someone in Paris was rude to me once!
the french tried to invade me once in victoria 3, that should be enough
Is that what we were supposed to do on Reddit?
Evidently they were friends, because they told me about Lemmy.

Fuck Reddit and Fuck Spez.
The guy that used to mod /r/jailbait? Yup. That guy.
It seems we are ruled by child rapists so it makes sense executives are into it too.
the alien called spez.
I don’t know about the rest of the images, but the last one is definitely photoshopped. Check out the reflection on the floor.
Great find! Misinformation is getting out of control…
The second picture on the house seems suspicious as well.
By exception, advertising is forbidden at the following locations:
On the walls of buildings except when these walls are blind or have at least one opening with a unit area of less than 0,50 m²
Within 100 meters and in the field of visibility of buildings with an aesthetic, historic or picturesque character

Yeah I hate reddit as much as the next guy, but come on.
I would say all of them are photoshopped.
Also in the third image you can see in the reflection there’s a word that is not mirrored.
Also in the third image you can see in the reflection there’s a word that is not mirrored.
I cannot find it.
Ok there’s actually three words I could discern:

I modified the contrast a little to see it clearer. But yeah that’s definitely not a reflection, unless is the reflection of a reflection… But that’s seems unlikely.
this is what the fediverse needs
Seems pretty easy to ‘improve’ with some paint?
r becomes f, add a .org
Nah, this is one more landmark on the eventual enshitifcation of every platform. This is only happening because as company that is publicly traded, so someone at Reddit HQ realized that they could make more money off new french users than the cost of ads. So then they have a fiduciary duty to do exactly that. Just like the reddit API-ocalypse, the finical benefits data from every redditors mobile by being forced to use the official app was determined to be more profitable than those that left.
Either Lemmy dies or it grows enough to do the same eventually.
But lemmy cant be controlled like a company
Maybe it gets smaller because people switch to piefed or something but i dont see how lemmy can enshitify the way corpo platforms canA particular instance could absolutely enshittify, but it being easy(ish) to move off any particular instance if that happens makes it both less likely and the impact of it smaller.
Well but as far as I am aware Lemmy has no fiduciary responsibility, as it is not a corporation, is open source and uses a web standard to communicate. Therefore there is no requirement for instance server managers to use the “official” version of Lemmy and could refuse to implement anti-user features, like specific app requirements. So I would say it would be really really hard to enshittificate Lemmy, if not borderline impossible, because users would just use their own fork, which would still be interoperable.
Rule of thumb: the more something is advertised, the more shit it is for one reason or another, and you’ll do well to avoid it altogether. When I’m advising people on contractors, my number 1 rule is: if they’re on TV, they’re criminals, I promise you.
I help friends and family with minor plumbing repairs and they will tell me:
oh I had “x” company come and they did that
" well it’s all wrong "
They charged me a lot of money for that!
" why on earth would you have called them"
Because I saw their advertisement on TV. I thought they were good
" nah they’re crooks"
Mullvad is good though
Their ads mostly carry a political message, like the one opposing chat control during an EU summit in Sweden…
Maybe they shouldn’t have permabanned thousands of active users like me, with a 12 year account and nearly 1 million Karma. People like me built Reddit, and as soon as HitlerPig was inaugurated, the DOGE Goblin demanded that Reddit purge its membership. Now they’re stuck with bots, novelty accounts, punsters, Russian Propaganda Farmers, MAGA activists, etc.
Did you get any reason for the ban?
Not OP, but the story is the same. Personally I said something bad about Elon. I don’t remember what but it didn’t break their rules.
The problem is they delete the “offending comment” and don’t tell you what it was and don’t give you a chance to argue your case. I got banned from a subredit once just by posting some lyrics to a song from Nightmare Before Christmas (Kidnap the Santy Claus). There is no point trying to make sense of it. Websites all die eventually and others take their place.
It’s Reddit’s time.
Personally I said something bad about Elon. I don’t remember what but it didn’t break their rules.
It does not look good, how do you know it did not break their rules?
Because I know what I post there. I don’t know exactly what was said because it was from days ago and I posted quite a bit in the comments. they of course won’t tell you what the comment was because they deleted it.
I think all of my anti-Musk posts were basically saying he was a douche or a dickhead in so many words. I’m sure it got reported, some basement knob mod banned me because they want to be Musk, and that’s the end of that.
If me and my posts (both comments and original posts) are what they’re selling, and I can’t express my opinion about someone, then the place isn’t worth my time. Reddit can go the bots and repost karma whores for all I care.
I got banned for “advocating violence” in a comment that simply said “I work in support services and I can personally attest that women can be extremely physically and emotionally violent, and to continually portray men as ‘the violent ones’ in our society, we tacitly deny protection to all people”
Banned for expressing this horrid thought.
You should be locked up, obviously. (I am kidding)
No appeal procedure is proposed?
Have you encountered the same problems on Lemmy?
I appealed (not because I actually gave a fuck) and they denied it saying it was reviewed by a human, it clearly was not reviewed by a human lol
Fuck that place anyways
Appeal system goes straight to /dev/null.
The bots will not be challenged
Reddit is the most new-user-unfriendly site I have ever been to. You’ve got to farm an unknown amount of karma before you can post or comment in subreddits. There’s a reason I’m at Lemmy now. Fuck Reddit. (Also, 4chan is a toilet. The occasional nuggets of good stuff aren’t worth trawling through pages of shitposts for.)
reddit recently became hostile to new users, and inactive users(users that suddenly decide to use thier old accounts to comment) they just shadowban most of them now. the only people ive seen that succesful are the ones that are using other methods(not vpn) to hide thier device, fingerprinting, IP adress etc. even this is temporary, since reddit is also catching up to the other methods.
That’s funny cause all but one of my alts was banned, which so happened to me the only account I didn’t use the same email address for. So I figured that email is the only tracking method they use. I’ve had no issue making new accounts under different address.
Not just an email address and IP address, but also knowing what browser and even user behavior, and banning the alt account 30 minutes after the main account being permabanned. The fuck they were possibly using.
Reddit after banning literally everyone: “WE DID IT! WE SAVED REDDIT!”
It’s worse than ever. Once you work your way up to being able to say anything - BAN! It’s more of an echo chamber than ever before.
They don’t even let you see what you were banned for. Links to a comment that doesn’t exist within your ban notification
AI bans dont tell you that your what you were banned for, its always the generic “you have violated mutliple violations, on your ACCOUNTS” message. they also use AI moderation to shadowban people too, which i think is much more severe than the sitewide banning. they originally shadowban people for using ban evasion accounts, but now they are abusing to ban anyone indiscirminately(aside from a selected group of users).
i think reddit also gatekeep new users, and inactive users.
They are carefully curating their membership so it’s more MAGA-friendly. They’re turning it into Twitter.
Isn’t 4chan dead and gone?
Nah, still alive and unwell
Moved here and haven’t looked back.
I do keep a Reddit account that is strictly used for informational/support type stuff (i.e. “help me figure out what type of widget I should buy for this task”). I avoid anything controversial on that account.
The good gteen texts always end up on other platforms anyway.
And get reposted for decades to come
The fucking acronyms and in-jokes don’t help, either.
“Entre inconnus, on peut tour se dire” “Inconnus” but please sign in using this Google SSO modal.
