I ask this during a time when it has become trendy to “expose” the inner workings of so-called cults. Ever since Leah Remini started doing her exposé gig with her time spent in Scientology, different people have come forward claiming to have been in cults, sometimes seeing cults where they don’t even exist (which is why I’ve often joked this is the “new new atheist movement” or the “Mephistopheles panic”, a joke on the fact it’s just another Satanic panic). The comments section never sees it my way, but I can see through a lot of these cough cough Alyssa Grenfall cough cough

However, nobody in this part of the media has ever been known for complete honesty/accuracy. For example, there were survivor tips that used to circulate on there for people who were stuck in the desert, and many of these tips, such as vaporizing your pee to drink it, would most likely kill you.

But there are many of you who have expertise or opinions that draw you against some people more than others. What such people do you disagree with or object to the most?

That’s a bit oddly specific, this wasn’t intended to be about that, but alright. I’m not one of them but know enough people who are to know she goes overboard with her criticisms sometimes. For example, she singles certain people out for their “treasure hunting” when it was a folk tradition practiced by many people at the time, misconstrues their dress code on more than one occasion, and paints Joseph Smith’s expression of polygamy as dirty when, if it was as dirty as people say, it would’ve been one of the crimes he was charged with by the courts. I singled her out because she’s the easiest person to get stuck seeing on the front page, so it quite literally and unavoidably feels in your face, thus it’s a bit of a meme right now to cite her.

I feel like this comment of yours is a jab against me, but Leah Remini herself, after being asked to weigh in on Mormonism, said it’s nowhere near as bad as people paint it, so I at least have the OG to help back things up.

I had to search for her to figure out who you meant; I’ve watched some of her content, but she’s nowhere near my front page. This is just the YouTube algorithm working against you. You can choose ‘Don’t recommend channel’ to avoid seeing her videos if you don’t want to.

It’s not, I just assumed (apparently correctly) that you had a specific perspective since you called her (and only her) out by name.

Idk, probably Andrew Tate or some red pill manly man bullshit. I stay on top of my YouTube algorithm so I never see that crap though. I watch YT to learn stuff or for entertainment; I get nothing from Andy Pandy and his ilk except for feeling depressed and sad, so I don’t.

I enjoyed the channel “forgotten weapons”. I think guns are neat, but I don’t wanna hear any right wing NRA bullshit. The presenter avoided politics and I was happy.

Then he did a series on guns from Rhodesia. OK, I give him the benefit of the doubt, though people who are interested in Rhodesia are way more sus than those interested in Nazi Germany. But then, the channel featured anti-riot weapons at the height of the George Floyd summer and I can only view that as pro-pig messaging. Fuck that channel.
