More like 1930s Germany.
But with new technology available, so the sci-fi distopia analogy makes sense.

Don’t they know just because you’ve banned a word, doesn’t mean that the item or thing automatically poofs out of existence?
This is that easy. There’s a few words I’d love to ban. How about Elmo? And Turd
It makes it harder to pursue science when you cannot use the terns others in ypur field use.
Unfortunately, this kind of control of language does work in the long term.
It’s just the first step. You don’t acknowledge they exist on paper or in speech. That makes it much easier to turn against them physically. It’s still up in the air whether or not they take the final steps of making their existence illegal. I think they will.
Wiping trans people from existence is easier for them to do when nobody is allowed to talk about them.
This is a 21st century version of book burning.
This is Project 2025 in action.
What about Turd Ferguson?

What kind of research do you have in mind? The phrase “research against” strikes me as a bit odd: it suggests research done with a preconceived conclusion in mind, whereas good scientific research tries to investigate a question neutrally and only conclude based on the evidence.
Examples?
Crazy how polticized science is.
Well now how will I explain that a pregnant dominant species member is not a Martian
I think the endgame is to tear down anything tax dollars have touched. Which, you know, is plausible since his entire platform could be simply summed up as a giant middle finger.
Expect them to attempt to torch more than our science databases
I hope no one resubmits anything.
They would be rejected
Publish it somewhere else. Don’t let the fascists control data and reality.
If only publishing wasn’t such a painful process. Maybe other journals can fastrack retracted cdc papers
Theoretically, this could be the impetus that Sparks Open journals, but unfortunately that doesn’t seem very likely.
And just like that sci-hub will be even more useful
There is also annas-archive.
What the actual fuck.
Modern day book burning?
No I’ve been assured this is free speech.
Science burning.
Time to start burning billionaires.

This must be all that government waste I’ve been hearing about…
Why not move all journals out of the US or move all research out of US journals. Who cares if for instance JAMA publishes nothing this year? Nearly 100% of the value was always in the scientists who write and review the work
it’s not US journals which are affected, it’s the scientists working for the CDC
For now…
Since when does the CDC have the authority to do this in the first place? If the CDC can’t effectively police actions during a global pandemic they sure as shit shouldn’t have to authority to control the terminology used in medical research.
Maybe research that used CDC funds?
Scientists are going to have to start living more modest lifestyles if they want to appreciate science more than wealth.
How does boot taste?
…what?
Is there an equivalent to samizdat in scientific journals?
If so, our scientists should adopt some pseudonyms…
An attack on science is an attack on us all. They are trying to erase science they dont agree with. This is Christian fascism - welcome to giliad.
Anyone in the US please organise - join an anti religious influence group, protest, disobey. You must fight back.
Science doesn’t need politics, politics needs science.
science needs politics to not be repressed, politics needs science for being effective and fair.
Science doesn’t need politics to tell what is what, it’s science who should be telling politics what is what. Ofcourse politics can block science, e.g. this article.
No it surely doesn’t. Politics can exist with no new science.
It can, but it shouldn’t.

Also, for those leaking info, please do better than the OOP of the screen shot contained in this post. Not saying this is particularly sensitive and I don’t even know if their intent was to remain anonymous. But just a reminder to think about the little things like the “You forwarded this message at 11:17” because if anyone cares, they could easily find out who forwarded that email at that time. I would guess that most government entities could pretty easily come up with justification to fire anyone based on the public dissemination of intergovernmental emails, regardless of whether the contents were specifically noted as sensitive.
I only felt compelled to comment this because this is the second post I have seen in the last day or so with an identifying feature like that. There are a lot of government employees who probably can’t stomach working under this administration, and I get it. But there is an argument to make that those of you who oppose the administrations stances can do more good from within, or at least do your best to minimize the harm that would be caused by the bootlicking henchmen you will be replaced with.

In Oldspeak, this might be rendered:
CDC orders mass retraction and revision of submitted research across all science and medicine journals. Banned terms must be scrubbed. (Including gender, transgender, pregnant person, LGBT, and more)
