downvote bots needed
Am I a bot to you?
Wouldn’t work if it’s Reddit itself manipulating the results
I don’t understand why it’s still so taboo to say that opaque social network owner would manipulate their platform’s results. They absolutely do it all the time because no one can know or stop them.
Who needs bots? get up your old abandoned reddit accounts guy!
They’re all perm-banned for reporting mods for fuckery but I’m with you in spirit
funny thing redd started to banning them recently. its an recent effort of them cleaning house of potential competing OF users, and bots.
Agree tbh. Drag invited drag’s friends to use Lemmy and they were treated horribly by the community. Drag is addicted to the platform and wouldn’t wish that addiction on anyone. Except Elon Musk.
But at least you tried to solve other people’s addictions to Lemmy by telling them to commit murder/suicide. Multiple people. Very kind of you.
Drag surely did tell people to murder Nazis, but you’ve made up a story about telling them to commit suicide as well. Probably because you knew murdering Nazis is a good thing, even though you hate it. Drag told them to avoid killing themselves.
See, the problem with stupid lies like this is that the modlogs are public.
And now it’s time for you to get onto one of your sockpuppet accounts to talk about how mean people are being to you.
That’s a screenshot of a person with terminal cancer being told to do violence to others instead of killing themself. Drag doesn’t know if you’re lying or delusional, but please shut up.
reason: No encouraging people to suicide, well intentioned or not
That’s Ada’s opinion. She and drag disagree about those events, but she doesn’t harass drag or go onto random threads weeks later to spread rumours. Drag and Ada had a nice conversation in private about the event and she chose not to ban drag. But drag did ask her to change the reason in the modlog, because drag was certain that less reasonable people would see what she said and take it as a reason for harassment.
It’s also the opinion of the person you responded to.
Those stupid lying cancer victims are clearly out to get you.
Drag needs their own instance for their friends maybe?
That would be a great idea if drag was smart enough
Then no one would see them make a mockery of trans people.
Seriously…. Why are you here?
Not shown: the analytics, and, for all we know possible history of biased searches that went into confirming OP’s own bias.
Oh, just looked more into the thread. Seriously, posting a reddit search, and obscuring the fact that is was a reddit search in the cropping? 🤦
OP says it’s a reddit search in the title though.
Ah, there’s the problem. I can’t read right now. 🤦
Vile? What’s so vile on Lemmy?
Can someone direct me to the right communities? 😜
!meanwhileongrad@sh.itjust.works and !yepowertrippingbastards@lemmy.dbzer0.com
These comms document some bad stuff.
Lemmy feels like seeing Reddit grow from nothing with the small community and more serious tone.
This time however, it’s ours.
My beef with Lemmy:
- It’s weighted towards politics
- Not a lot of niche sub critical mass yet (though this is not its fault at all)
- But holy moly, it’s a political purity test! Like, I think of myself as pretty socialist, way far off center, but I feel totally alone veering off certain topics or even acknowledging certain things! I’m (mostly) not getting banned, and I am not leaving, but still.
I mean I think those are just the people who comment on politics threads.
I got banned from the Star Trek Memes sub, or something, for very mild trolling. I don’t even remember what earned it, I think I said I can’t get my head around an animated Star Trek and can’t accept it as canon or something, and then the trolling was just me doubling down on that opinion (which is an actual opinion). People do love their fandoms.
I had my comments deleted by some authoritarian nerd mod on one of those star trek communities for shitting on Discovery. Apparently, by having a negative opinion, I wasnt creating a welcoming atmosphere.
Ah, just what the Federation would aspire to: the silencing of any critical thought by undemocratically-installed secret leaders. Really does seem like the mod is a fan of NuTrek retcons.
(Secret because the mod log is usually obfuscated to users, so they don’t even know which mod deleted their comment to appeal the decision)
Apparently, by having a negative opinion, I wasnt creating a welcoming atmosphere.
Jeez, some mods have never heard of the concept of toxic positivity
STD was such a garbage show, how did people find it good also there were continuity problems too , kurtzman abandoned the klingons look, and thier cloak behind, because he couldnt explain it.
If memory serves, there was an episode, when they were in the 32nd century, where they said they couldn’t jump (spore drive) while cloaked. Then, in the same episode (or one soon after) they did exactly that. Can’t even follow their own rules because the show is a joke to them.
But apparently in some spaces all opinions must be positive ones.
star trek is wierd, theres like 2 types of fans, the old trek and the nutrek crowd, the nutrek crowd is wierd becuase the series that came out since 09 sucks balls.
What about SNW?
It may not punch as hard as DS9, but I still love it.
i feel like it could be a better series if the actors were given better lines, and dint act like robots and dint try to use current issues that mirrors the plot. i do like prodigy lower decks more. picard is just not good, kinda lazy in the end too.
star trek series, at least the old suck for the first 2 seasons, but it gets better, nutrek just gets worst overtime. snw tries to fix that though, but they shouldnt use the same styles as the other 2.
The SNW characters themselves are interesting though. Like, I can’t remember a single character from what little I watched of Discovery, many of Picard’s new ones were forgettable and so on, but I like all of SNW’s.
And I like the cast.
It needs better episode-to-episode writing, sure.
Risa?
Reddit has the same issue though.
But it’s still far more political here…
It’s more politically informed, for certain.
i argue that there arent really any niche communities. if I see a site with slow and limited posts, and 0 comments on most of those posts, can I really call that a community? i like video games and furry stuff. the video game and furry stuff sites have next to nothing on them. apparently the only ‘geeks’ here are Linux users who only talk about Linux distros or tankies who hate everyone and everything
Agreed.
I need to force myself to post/comment more in these subs though. Like I am trying to keep an eye on /c/thelastairbender for instance, but there are more.
It’s expected. Right now, it is becoming a safe space for political dissidence. As sentiment pools and gathers mass, things tend to get towards the polar opposites and revolt breeds more revolt. Anything less than total agreement is viewed sideways.
But holy moly, it’s a political purity test! Like, I think of myself as pretty socialist, way far off center, but I feel totally alone veering off certain topics or even acknowledging certain things! I’m (mostly) not getting banned, and I am not leaving, but still.
I saw people advocating for damaging people’s Teslas and it was fucking stupid. Beyond the fact that many people are not in a position where they can just get rid of a car over political reasons, it is likely many or even the majority of Tesla owners do not vote Republican (conservatives have been much slower to adopt EVs): you’re very likely going to damage vehicles owned by totally innocent people.
I own a non-Tesla EV but either way it would be excessively expensive to switch to another car on a whim, and I sure as hell am not going to deprive my family just because seeing my car’s brand hurts people’s feelings.
that part is wierd, conservatives dont own EVS, PERIOD fox has been telling how evs are a }pansy liberal thing", cybertruck is anomaly though.
Agree with the sentiment, I feel like cybertrucks deserve an exemption though, agree or disagree?
If this is your form of protest at least target someone who has materially contributed to this state of affairs, and by that I don’t mean random Republican voters.
People who have materially contributed to this state of affairs Republican voters
This Venn diagram is a circle.
If anything, cybertrucks come pre-damaged
It’s scary until you notice you don’t get banned for disagreeing & challenging their dumbassery (as long as you follow the rules), unlike reddit where the slightest wrong move & it’s BAN BAN BAN. Fuck that place.
It also helps to check which instance a post comes from & adjust your expectations accordingly.
It also helps to check which instance a post comes from & adjust your expectations accordingly.
Fundamentally, Reddit has (in the Past) better moderation, and theirs is lousy.
currently on reddit the slightest misconstrued of your comment will get you banned, my favorite is always “harassment and hate”. i was in the gym sub, and someone qouted machelenny as someone “that naturally achieved that look” from isaip, and responded with "roids and juiced up. instant ban, and you contact the mods for a whole month.
Lucky you… I managed to get banned once, for not being “left” enough. So I just don’t engage in specific kind of topics anymore.
I feel like 3 kinda comes with the territory of politics. The sort of people who mod political forums have more rigid ideas of what ideas should prevail in the discourse than someone modding a board for embedded electronics, not that that’s an inherently bad thing.
It just feels worse because a greater portion of Lemmy is politics; here I’ve caught bans for being insufficiently pro-Kamala months after the election or not going along with a china bad circlejerk, but at reddit people catch bans for “John Brown did nothing wrong” or just posting footage from Palestine.
the gaza/palestine thing is very tricky, many of the subs have been infiltrated by pro-israeli mods, early on the war, they were spamming “jews are doing nothing wrong, if we jews dont destroy them they will destroy us”, i pointed out in one, where the war was instigated and started by the same person who is keeping himself out of jail in israel.
Pro-zionist sentiment was definitely prevalent on here following Oct 7th. It took many months for anti-zionist sentiment to outpace it, thanks to many people debunking their misinformation and sharing articles that showed the reality that most Western Media downplayed if not ignored
On places like reddit, we mostly continue to see more and more banning of anything anti-zionist. r/Palestine might be the only place left that isn’t aggressively pro-zionist on there
on r/worldnews my whole acct was suspended for 7 days for contradicting bibi, and HAMAS, who started the war, the commentor threw a fit and made a nasty comment and reported me, sometimes you can tell who reported you by looking at your previous message.
Yeah. To be clear, I don’t feel “persecuted” by the administration, just the community. That’s a very important difference.
I’ve caught bans for being insufficiently pro-Kamala
I talked some shit during the election and didn’t cop a ban lol. I guess you either had more visibility or were in even more extreme places than I was?
These problems usually solve themselves as the network grows.
For the moment, I just don’t engage in political discussion on Lemmy. It is way to extreme for me in general. It makes sense tho that those who don’t feel their opinions fit anywhere else (or get them banned etc.) gather in a place that allows for freer discussion, which I think is a good thing really.
And also just posting about niche music makes me happier than getting angry online so… That’s been a good motivation.
See, that’s exactly the kind of thing I come here for. Keep doing it!
Honestly I think your approach is closer to the ideal: it’s pretty poisonous to the mind if most of the content you take in is political in nature. You need to explore other stuff too, broaden horizons and all that.
I’ve been learning how to design parts with CAD software and 3D print it. Also got a home server going to host games and media, among other things. These hobbies keep me sane, and that’s what I’m ultimately getting at: people need to get a hobby that isn’t about being mad on the internet.
Also instead of just whining on the internet, its far more effective to engage in local politics and build up a base of people there than hoping that “someone” will do “something” about the whole country. That “someone” has to come from somewhere: create the grassroots that can be the base from which change springs.
Can I ask what resources your using to teach yourself CAD? I want to learn it as well.
MangoJelly’s FreeCAD course is great, but there are others out there too. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLWuyJLVUNtc3UYXXfSglVpfWdX31F-e5S&si=92MFYxLjD2xGmg80
frankly, lemmy is literally only place I have found where you can discuss politics reasonably. I also try to rid myself of any pride about being right about anything and actually look forward to being called out if someone thinks i’m wrong. Then I can take a look at what they say and adjust my own opinions if the other guy makes sense.
Though i dont go to .ml, they seem more interested in witch hunts than making anything better.
in reddit you have to walk on eggshells when your in those subs, even if your “agreeing with everyone else”, one simple misconstruement will get you banned.

The rando-ban problem on reddit is its biggest flaw. I’m afraid to submit anything there. And I generally only comment in small subs.
i did that unbeknownst they were haivng a ban wave last week, and subs upping thier spam removal filters, plus they dont like if you report too much, or report something the MODS dont like, from what ive gathered if a mod responds to your “report of another player” you are mostly getting a warning, or ban from thier subreddit, and this also it constitutes as account-wide violation once you get banned by a mod for reporting someone. and its also corroborated on the “modsupport” sub that they hate having to deal with Report abuse in general.
That’s probably for the best Jamie Oliver - you do have a public persona to consider.
Yeah, but at least I can make a grilled cheese unlike that other dunce Gordon
I don’t have any problems being occasionally politically incorrect on lemmy. Even if you get tons of downvotes, so what?
It’s probably Spez with a second hand account
Idk I kind of like Lemmy so far 🤷
it’s basically like a super Reddit
Lemmy.ml and Lemmygrad actually are terrible
Yes, they are. Lemmy as a whole isn’t.
Good. If they are willing to smear us, they fear us.
Use Qwant instead:
Sorry, I meant to say when you search on reddit for it.
Gee it’s almost like Reddit doesn’t want people going to a competetor.
Oh wow, that’s a pretty significant detail.
I was wondering what search you used for those results, I tried Google, and got mainly results about Motorhead.
But now I see the main filters are Posts, Communities, comments…So pretty obvious when you know it.
Qwant
First I’ve heard of Quant. Got any more information? What engine it’s a front end to, who’s backing it, etc?
It’s independent, and operating from France, so it’s directly under EU regulation.
How does it stack against Kagi
I guess being free is a big selling point.
Yeah but I’m immediately skeptical of anything that’s “free“
Lemmy is free ; )
Yeah but I understand how it works due to its being open source and there is no central company involved/T&C where they get access to anything.
Skeptical doesn’t mean blind mistrust of all things free. It just means I start from a place of skepticism until I’m convinced otherwise.
I believe it’s Fr€nch - servers are European based. Beyond that I know nothing.
do people still use google for search? when i watch my mom search for something she’ll ask any AI over google. soon reddit results will vanish from google for their paywall. so this is a good sign! the evil americans will have a hard time with massextraction of personal data from around the world. enemies of murica can research building bombs without being tracked by the neonazination. anything bas for america haa turned into something good for the world. is there any way to speed this up maybe? spez should start his paywal asap!
Must be a coincidence /s
Definitely not related to this https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/37910698
Spez would never do this on purpose, he’s a good guy
Ima be real everyone is kissing lemmys ass but… I mean, it feels like reddit? Which is good?
Feels no different from reddit so far lol
Here, your comment doesn’t get completely buried if you make one on a popular post. Part of that is the lack of heavy volume, of course, but I also feel like the sorting is more favorable to less upvoted comments.
I find myself getting into less stupid arguments here, and it feels more active.
Main difference from reddit is that you don’t see the same joke repeated in every thread. And here if you comment something it’ll probably be read by at least a few people.
Those top posts on reddit are always karma farming bots
Not so sure about the jokes. I use Arch BTW…
Disclaimer: I actually don’t. I’m too lazy these days.
Thanks for the gold, kind stranger!
The top comment on reddit is always a stupid fucking joke or pun. Not so on lemmy. That’s the biggest difference I notice when I go back to look at reddit. On popular posts the whole first 3 threads are inane bullshit.
“I also chose this guys dead wife”…
Like the inside jokes were really good on Reddit like the switcheroo one, or the guy that always had that whole comment that ended in the wrestling scene but most of them were just repeated to death
New here but so far it feels like Reddit used to feel 10 years ago - a bit less populated maybe.
Yeah Lemmy has the user base that will dogpile you if you say something mildly upsetting
Windows 11 is the best operating system Microsoft have released in a long time, and I think it wins out on Arch Linux.
Windows XP was the best OS ever. Then it was overtaken by any other alternative.
After 5 words it was already evident that you were lying

Same culture, less exploitation by a corporation.
