Lol fediverse has marketing issue. So far it’s basically harder to use less functional versions of other products with larger base. Seems like “protecting you data” isn’t quite enough to compete with the additive crack corporate stuff puts out

Same, but I’ve also seen a bunch of people both on Reddit and Bluesky say they don’t like Lemmy because the interface feels dated, “like Reddit 10 years ago.”

To each their own I guess. But maybe there should be an instance that sets their default theme to something that feels more modern so those who want a simpler, less usable, experience can easily have that too.

And yeah, they’d probably become the new instance everyone complains about for being too “normie” but if we actually want the fediverse to catch on and take down corporate-owned social media, we are eventually gonna have to appeal to every part of those sites’ user bases.

Nah that went away with the advent of the “proportional” scoring or whatever bullshit they called it like 10 years ago

It’s that what happened when a popular post that was ‘blowing up’ on Reddit went from 500 updoots on the front page to mediocre front-page posts regularly getting 3-4k updoots seemingly over night?

I was there, I remember the change, I can’t remember why it happened.

It was ostensibly to make it harder for advertisers to game their own posts (similar to not showing you your own posts’ scores for a set period after creation), but like everything else on that site, it’s turned into some bullshit activist mods and admins use to keep things their corporate overlords don’t like from gaining too much traction.

Lemmy feels like seeing Reddit grow from nothing with the small community and more serious tone.

    This time however, it’s ours.

I don’t understand why it’s still so taboo to say that opaque social network owner would manipulate their platform’s results. They absolutely do it all the time because no one can know or stop them.

Agree tbh. Drag invited drag’s friends to use Lemmy and they were treated horribly by the community. Drag is addicted to the platform and wouldn’t wish that addiction on anyone. Except Elon Musk.

But at least you tried to solve other people’s addictions to Lemmy by telling them to commit murder/suicide. Multiple people. Very kind of you.

Drag surely did tell people to murder Nazis, but you’ve made up a story about telling them to commit suicide as well. Probably because you knew murdering Nazis is a good thing, even though you hate it. Drag told them to avoid killing themselves.

See, the problem with stupid lies like this is that the modlogs are public.

And now it’s time for you to get onto one of your sockpuppet accounts to talk about how mean people are being to you.

That’s a screenshot of a person with terminal cancer being told to do violence to others instead of killing themself. Drag doesn’t know if you’re lying or delusional, but please shut up.

That’s Ada’s opinion. She and drag disagree about those events, but she doesn’t harass drag or go onto random threads weeks later to spread rumours. Drag and Ada had a nice conversation in private about the event and she chose not to ban drag. But drag did ask her to change the reason in the modlog, because drag was certain that less reasonable people would see what she said and take it as a reason for harassment.

I’ve noticed a rise of Bot Moderators on reddit and their AI is not very good. They pick up on certain words and not context. One banned me for 3 days for harassment but I was defending myself against someone that was being antagonistic against me. My appeal was rejected :(

It’s likely just keywords. I had a similar thing when the comment I left was quite clearly sarcasm. I messaged the mods and they said their automod couldn’t differentiate between sarcasm and ernest, and tough luck 🤷🏻‍♀️

i got temp ban, because i reported too much, and or people they dint want me reporting. oh when you get temp ban/perma ban, if the same sub sees you again, even if your ban was lifted, it bans you again because it assumes your evading(it doesnt clear when your ban gets lifted in some cases)

Honestly I had some really bad experiences here on Lemmy. I So bad, that in fact I contemplated going back to Reddit because it didn’t feel much different. I surely went from recommending my friends to delete Reddit to towards more of a “just quit Reddit altogether but there’s no good alternative”

good thing about lemmy is that if you have bad experience, you can effectively ignore it and still find some good elsewhere. On reddit the shit is so ingrained everywhere you cant really escape it. I also had bad experience with .ml instance that I never had with reddit. But all the good experiences I have had dont even compare to reddit.

Also knowing that some rich piece of shit cant manipulate anything here on fundamental level makes lemmy feel clean.

Lemmy has some of the most tiresome people, like a completely humorless version of the most circlejerk parts of reddit. Why am I here then. Because how are we ever gonna have a reddit alternative if we don’t have at least a few normal people.
