        Just commenting “This”.

Yea, I should have been clearer.

It’s weird, not once have I wanted to comment “this” on Lemmy. But I did it all the time on Reddit. Maybe because I felt a disconnect between voting (rewarding a comment that contributed) and agreeing with the comment.

Maybe the comments on Lemmy are not so knee-jerk and numerous that there’s not a reason to simply show agreement.

don’t know why I was downvoted

I’m convinced there are people out there that just downvote everything. They get some kind of chemical release in their brains when they hit the downvote button. You could say “being happy feels good” and someone out there will downvote it.

I think it’s fat fingering then others dont think for themselves and just go with whatever it already is.
Feels awful when you had a creative comment but just didn’t spell it out well enough and it gets like 3 downvotes 🥲

like noo I didn’t mean it in a bad way, I just like falling asleep to technical videos and that’s a compliment coming from me 😭😭

The only way to stop that is to remove the downvote button.

People will always fat-finger or vote based on emotion.

Karma and comment requirements to participate in communities. Plus how hard it is for your submission to actually be approved.

This one is inevitable but people going through your whole comment history when arguing with you.

Putting the word “porn” in community titles for anything involving photography or gfx. It’s immature and unnecessarily crude. I think it’s too late though.

I’ve seen this said before, actually. I agree, and I think some people will give me funny looks when they see me at cableporn (really neat cables) or something like that.

The hive mind might already be here, depending on who you ask. I was already left/progressive, though, so it just feels like hanging out with like-minded people.

Jerks I can do without, but they’re unavoidable. Simply not engaging with them seems to work best.

I feel like to a point it might be, but to a point in today’s age and internet - everything is an echo chamber so it’s turned into a “pick ypur poison” kind of thing.

That being said, open discourse and actual conversation seems more prevalent and easier to come by here then on reddit which is very nice.

I think the different instances help with that, as it encourages at least some interaction outside of your direct bubble…

That said when Hexbear re-enable federation I very much doubt “open discourse” or “actual conversation” will be the results

                You are a shameful liar.

Doxxing is explicitly against their code of conduct: “Do not publish, comment, message, or post personally identifiable information about other users. We also strongly discourage posting any personally identifiable information about yourself.” They are the only instance that doesn’t log IP addresses in their database and scrubs meta-data from any image uploaded there.

Where are their communities dedicated to brigading? There is no actual proof of them doing anything like that, more so it is the most active instance (4.9 million comments) so anyone posting blatant lies like you will be confronted.

Hexbears troll and give personal attacks against either those that start it with them or people who are racist, homophobic, transphobic, or ableist.

And the US doesn’t torture prisoners. And Russia didn’t invade Ukraine. And nothing happened in China on 4th June 1989…

The rules are completely unenforced, and also generally don’t apply for actions against people on other instances. Take a look at slop as the biggest example where they link to other instances and swathes of Hexbear users go brigade that post without even taking the time to factcheck, and look around at their other communities and you’ll find plenty of similar ones.

A result of decentralization. There absolutely are instances full of insufferable whatevers for many varieties of whatever, but being decentralized makes it a lot harder for them to utterly own all discussion on a topic in the way that often happens on Reddit.

Constant reposts and lack of any critical thinking or engagement. It is insane to think that every post I have put on here so far, I am new, has had more interaction that the gigantic ‘active’ user base of Reddit.
